Families across West Yorkshire are experiencing lengthy delays when applying for probate. We have recently received the following communication direct from the Probate Registry:-
"We have recently moved to a new system and are working our way through a backlog of applications. In the meantime, we would ask you not to commit to a completion deadline when putting properties on the market to sale as we may not be able to accommodate these until the backlog has cleared.
We are currently working on cases which were received on or after 26th March and all cases and correspondence including IHT421s are being processed in date order. Please note all registries are working to the same time scales.
Please only contact us if the matter is extremely urgent e.g. A house sale where the date for completion has been fixed and is within the next week, we would need to see email evidence of a completion date agreed
Please be assured we are doing all we can to process these cases as quickly as possible."
We would advise anybody dealing with a loved one's estate, particularly where there is a house to sell, to not delay in making the application for probate.
