I met with Mary at a networking event for professional women. A few month’s later she contacted me saying that she needed to make a Will.

We met and I began my usual process of investigating a little more about my client with questions about her health, income, family situation and assets. It became quickly apparent that Mary was a very successful lady with her own business and own home. Mary however did not have any family of her own and indeed her immediate family was small.

Mary explained that based upon our first meeting and our now second meeting she would want to appoint me as her solicitor to be the executor of her Will.

I also explained to Mary that as a single person she was particularly vulnerable if she were to become incapacitated in any way, for instance if she suffered a stroke, was involved in an accident or developed a disease such as dementia. Who would run her business? Who would pay her staff? Who would make decisions on her behalf?

Mary decided that, based upon my advice, she would want to prepare a Lasting Power of Attorney for her Property and Affairs and for her Health and Welfare with myself as her attorney. These documents are hopefully only ever an insurance policy and in an ideal world will never be used. However should the unforeseen ever occur Mary knows she is in good hands.
